چکیده

INTRODUCTION Approximate entropy (ApEn) [1] calculated from isometric tremor torque time-series provides additional information of the neuromuscular system, compared to that obtained from the traditional analysis (standard deviation (SD) or spectral analysis) [2]. The ApEn value is determined by the complex pattern of the neuromuscular system, decreases with pathology as e.g. Parkinson’s disease, and reflects the severity of the disease [2]. However, ApEn can be biased due to both overand under sampling, when calculated from continuous biological signals as e.g. isometric tremor. Methodological issues such as optimal sampling frequency and reliability of the method has not previously been assessed.

Tremor irregularity, torque steadiness and rate of force development in Parkinson's disease.

We investigated lower-extremity isometric tremor Approximate Entropy (irregularity), torque steadiness and rate of force development (RFD) and their associations to muscle activation strategy during isometric knee extensions in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Thirteen male patients with idiopathic PD and 15 neurologically healthy matched controls performed isometric maximal contractions...

Sample Entropy based HRV: Effect of ECG Sampling Frequency

Biomedical signals carry important information about the behaviour of the living systems under study. A proper processing of these signals in principle enhances their physiological and clinical information. Analysis of variations in the instantaneous heart rate time series using the beat to-beat RR intervals (the RR tachogram) is known as heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Sample entropy (S...

Identifying the Coupling Structure in Complex Systems through the Optimal Causation Entropy Principle

Inferring the coupling structure of complex systems from time series data in general by means of statistical and information-theoretic techniques is a challenging problem in applied science. The reliability of statistical inferences requires the construction of suitable information-theoretic measures that take into account both direct and indirect influences, manifest in the form of information...

Optimal Approximate entropy detection for Dynamic Spectrum Access in Cognitive Radio

Sensing the radio frequency bands is an open problem for dynamic spectrum access (DSA) in cognitive radio networks. To address this, numerous signal processing algorithms have been described based on entropy measurement. However, most of the methods lack connectivity between signal detection and appropriateness of the selected entropy. In this work, we propose an optimal detection method which ...

Effect of ECG Sampling Frequency on Approximate Entropy based HRV

Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis, instantaneous variation in RR intervals time series of electrocardiogram (ECG), is generally used for evaluating autonomic nervous system (ANS) functioning in cardiovascular research and in different human well being related applications. Approximate entropy (ApEn) is a nonlinear metric used to measure the irregularity of a RR interval time series. An incr...
